Description

Mitchell Analog Electronic Crossover

The ultimate solution for true-analog multi-amplified
systems

The Mitchell Analog Electronic Crossover is an incredibly
versatile frequency dividing device which can be easily configured to fit
virtually any speaker’s system for multiamplification.

Most loudspeakers use a passive network (called “crossover”)
to divide the sound spectrum so that each driver received the appropriate
frequencies: low frequencies to the woofer, mid frequencies to the midrange and
high frequencies to the tweeter.

The passive crossover is subject to various tradeoffs that
limit the loudspeaker performance. The only solution to overcome the tradeoffs
effect on the loudspeaker’s sound is to use an active crossover instead,
together with an amplifier for each driver. This method is called “active
multiamplification”.

The Mitchell is provided with six programmable filtering
modules to achieve a 3-way stereo crossover network or a 6-way mono network.
Modules in each channel can be cascaded to obtain more complex filtering
networks at the cost of reduced number of ways.

Each module can be programmed to be a low-pass filter, a
high-pass filter or a band-pass filters. Additional notch filters and a
shelving (enhance-band or attenuate-band) feature are provided, together with
an all-pass filter to perform phase alignment. Each module can be programmed independently
and each output level and phase can be set independently as well.

The Mitchell is configured thanks to an USB connection by
means of an app running on Windows computers (Linux and Mac versions available
later) which allows for total freedom in setting the various configurations of
each module, as well as gives support for filter design of various kinds:
Butterworth, Chebishev, Bessel.

The Mitchell is provided with both single-ended and balanced
inputs and outputs. A trigger input allows for power on and off by another
device. The Mitchell is also provided with an IR receiver to sense the on/off
command from other M2Tech devices. The operation of this IR received is also
programmed by the app.
